Coal Markets:

Georgia

Georgia is poor in fossil fuel, including coal - it has only 1 mid-size coalmining company that exploits 2 mines; however few more coal deposits have been discovered in the country at the late USSR period.

The country's single coalminer produces about 10 ktpa of thermal coal. Georgia also imports thermal coal for its power plants and boilers - mainly from Ukraine and Kazakhstan; as the country's power plants work mainly in natural gas the thermal coal import is low and counts for only 40 ktpa ($4 mln in current spot prices).

Note: not disputing South Ossetia's and Abkhazia's legal status and international recognition, we provide figures for Georgia without inclusion of these two areas.
