Coal Markets:

Tajikistan

Tajikistan is poor in fossil fuel, including coal - it has only 2 sub-bituminous and 1 lignite mines; all mines are small ones - with capacity in less than 50 ktpa each.

The country's mines produce about 100 ktpa of lignite and sub-bituminous coal; 100% of thermal coal is used inside the country.

Due to a fact most of electricity in the country is produced with its hydropower plants Tajikistan consumes no more than 200 ktpa of thermal coal; with 100 ktpa of domestic supply the country imports about 100 ktpa of coal (mainly from Kazakhstan).
